Obsessed with the Bible:  Is that Healthy??

"Train Yourself to Delight Obsessively in God's Word and become "a tree planted by streams of water"...obsessively?  Isn't that a little, uhm, obsessive??  I appreciate that pushback and am open to a better word for what I see in Psalm 1.  The person who is blessed is NOT plugged into the materialistic, scoffing, world...the chaff making world of the internet and hanging out with people being formed by the internet...the blessed person IS a person who "delights" in the Scriptures and can't stop thinking about them deeply "day and night."  That sounds a lot like being obsessed, even smitten with God's Word.  It sounds a lot like someone who is experiencing their first crush or who just had their first kiss.  Its not someone who is doing tokenistic devotions or who experiences God's word as drudgery.  Its not eating your Wheaties because you "should."

It is right to say that we obsess in the Scriptures because we are obsessed with God.  Memorization exists because Meditation does not and Meditation exists to ponder the glory of God in the face of Christ like we see in 2 Corinthians 3:18 "And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate a the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit."  You can see that the fascination with and contemplation of the Lord is transforming us into the image of God himself.  A restoration of the image originally placed in humankind (Gen 1:27) and beyond.  If there is anything on earth worth being obsessed with is it not the clearest lens we have to look through at Christ to ponder his glory?
